Buying Guides for Vehicle LED Displays

Everything you need to know before purchasing vehicle LED displays for your fleet.

The right display is a fit between the audience, the vehicle, the operating environment and the way content will be managed. Use this guide to make the first specification discussion more productive.

Start With the Application

Application Primary priority Useful questions
Taxi roof advertising Legibility, low roof load, fleet management How close will viewers be? Is dual-sided content required?
Bus or coach Long duty cycles and clear passenger information Will it display route information, advertising, or both?
Truck or trailer DOOH Large display area and route planning Will the vehicle be moving, parked, or both?
Custom vehicle Mechanical fit and power integration What body shape, mounting point and power system are available?

1. Pixel Pitch Selection

Pixel pitch determines resolution and viewing distance. For taxi displays, P2.5-P4 is ideal. For buses and trucks viewed from further away, P4-P10 works well.

2. Brightness

Outdoor vehicle displays need at least 3,000 cd/m2 for daytime visibility. For highway use, 5,000+ cd/m2 is recommended.

3. IP Rating

IP65 is the minimum for outdoor vehicle use. This means the display is dust-tight and protected against water jets.

4. Power Requirements

Most vehicle displays run on DC 12V or 24V. Check your vehicle’s electrical system capacity before ordering.

5. Cloud CMS

Look for 4G-connected displays with cloud management. This eliminates the need for manual content updates via USB.

6. Deployment Checklist

  • Confirm vehicle compatibility (roof load, power system)
  • Check local regulations for vehicle-mounted displays
  • Plan installation timeline (2-4 weeks from order)
  • Prepare content creatives before installation
  • Train staff on cloud CMS usage

Questions to Send With Your Enquiry

  • Vehicle make, model, year and photos of the intended installation area
  • Number of vehicles for the pilot and expected fleet size
  • Country or city of operation and known compliance requirements
  • Required display dimensions, viewing distance and content type
  • Whether you need installation support, CMS access, SIM/data service or spare parts

These details help us recommend a configuration that works in the field, rather than simply quoting the lowest-cost screen.

7. Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Choosing too high pixel pitch — results in poor close-up image quality
  • Underestimating brightness needs — 2,000 cd/m2 is not enough for daytime
  • Ignoring vibration resistance — standard indoor displays will fail on vehicles
  • Skipping cloud management — manual USB updates don’t scale past 10 vehicles
